  • Subtitles section
  • We're back now, with a breakout star
  • of an action packed new series,
  • That is right.
  • Gordon Cormier may only be fourteen
  • but he is leading the top show on Netflix in the U.S.
  • at the moment, Avatar The Last Airbender.
  • So, it's based on this animated series that actually came out almost two decades ago,
  • Gordon steps into the role of Aang
  • a young kid who finds that he's the Avatar.
  • So he has to master his powers over the four elements
  • to help save the world with the help of some friends,
  • Have you seen him?
  • Yeah.
  • That's not strange at all.
  • He is an inventor.
  • Have you seen Appa?
  • My sky bison?
  • Six legs, horns, brown arrows, sky bison.
  • Sky bison.
  • Repeating it doesn't help.
  • Gordon, welcome.
  • It's good to meet you.
  • It's amazing to meet you guys, too.
  • You know, this, this...
  • it's this series was so anticipated after the animated people were talking about it
  • you get to play the avatar
  • but it was so secretive
  • you didn't even know exactly what you were auditioning,
  • I had no clue.
  • He would not tell me a thing
  • and then, when you found out
  • what did you think,
  • I actually had no clue what the series was at first.
  • So you hadn't seen the animated version of it?
  • No, but I've seen it like twenty six times since then
  • so I think I got it.
  • I mean, I think it's a while that
  • that you're like the star of the most popular show on netflix
  • right now, you're only for teens
  • so obviously this is just the beginning
  • have you ever thought about like what your dream role would be like
  • if there's, if there was a character that you could play
  • what, what would, what would it be,
  • I've always wanted to do like and Adam Sandler style comedy.
  • Like maybe like a Jim Carrey
  • kind of, that's just the kind of comedy I really want to do
  • we're saving this clip.
  • Yeah, yeah, so when it happens a few years from now.
  • You can see that, at that point
  • maybe you want to shave all your hair,
  • Yeah, you know that be really nice.
  • I heard, so you went to kind of like a boot camp
  • to get ready for this,
  • And is it true the hardest part for you was stretching?
  • Definitely.
  • Why?
  • Stretching is so hard.
  • I can't touch my toes, so I'm with you, I guess.
  • I can't either.
  • I mean, I could at the time
  • but I haven't stretched since because all my trainers told me keep doing it
  • keep doing it, stay consistent
  • you'll get better, it'll get easier,
  • But it hasn't gotten easier, I haven't been consistent.
  • It's so funny, that was the hardest part
  • with all these stunts you were doing,
  • The stunts are a lot of fun, though.
  • Like, that's, like, my favorite part.
  • I can imagine.
  • Were you doing the wire work
  • and that sort of thing
  • where they strap you up into these wires
  • and stuff,
  • A lot of harness work.
  • So, like, they have different points on the harness.
  • So if I want to hang, like
  • wet dog, it's, like, in the middle of the back.
  • If I'm upside down, it's, like, on the bottom of my back.
  • And if I'm hanging straight up
  • it's on, like, the top around my neck area.
  • Oh, wow.
  • So you're fourteen.
  • You're in school.
  • What's it like to be back at school?
  • Is everybody watching your show?
  • I mean, yeah, it's kind of weird, actually.
  • Like, I show up back at school
  • and people are, like, getting photos with me.
  • And it's like, dude, you're at my school.
  • We're friends.
  • It's different, but yeah.
  • So I understand when you're not either in school or acting
  • you are an avid skateboarder.
  • What's your best move?
  • What's your thing, your go to?
  • Ooh, I mean, I suck at these
  • but I love treys, like trey flips.
  • Okay.
  • Oh, we've got some video here of you.
  • Oh, you doing your thing.
  • Nolly inward heel.
  • I imagine if you put a harness on and did that at the same time
  • you could get some pretty awesome air,
  • Get some crazy air on that.
  • And beyond the skateboarding
  • you also got some martial arts background.
  • You got a bit of a martial arts background out here, right?
  • Well, I did taekwondo from ages.
  • I think four to six, or six to eight
  • one or the other, but both
  • they're pretty forgotten,
  • If you could control one of the elements for real
  • which one would it be?
  • Fire, a hundred percent.
  • Wow, you didn't even hesitate.
  • No.
  • Not an airbender.
  • I've been saying air this whole time
  • but if I could like just like
  • I don't know, like generate fire and like
  • I wouldn't even need lighters for candles and stuff.

  • Don't worry about it.
  • very popular birthday party.
  • I would be some kind of like
  • who needs a car or a Sky train when you have a flying sky
  • by some I know, one Gordon
  • thank you, it's been delightful,
  • Yeah on the show, don't forget avatar the last airbender out right now on that
