When she woke up that morning, this woman never thought her day would get so insane.

Not even when she first saw this dog passing her house with a large package in his mouth.

It would cause a chain of events that would get the police involved and eventually make her burst into tears when she finds out what's going on.

Alice first saw this strange dog early in the morning.

She looked at it and wondered what the dog was doing.

That's odd.

I've never seen something like that before, were her exact words.

But then she saw the dog at least three times more that same day, every time it was carrying a different box.

The curiosity built up in the young woman.

She wanted to find out where this dog was going and what was in those boxes he carried around all day.

She then made the conscious decision to follow the Labrador just to see what was up.

Alice grabbed her coat and rushed out the front door.

Alice was just in time because seconds later the dog had already passed a corner.

She picked up the pace trying to close the distance between her and the dog.

Alice was shadowing the dog for about half an hour now, and their journey led them to a bad part of town.

Eventually, the dog stopped in one of them.

It seemed to be searching.

It walked back and forth in the alleyway a couple of times, and eventually he stopped in front of a worn down building.

It had no doors or windows, just holes.

And after about a minute, a man stepped out into the opening.

The man looked like he had not eaten or washed in weeks.

The appearance of this man did not seem to scare the dog one bit.

The dog put the package down on the ground before him, and Alice saw the man grab an item out of it.

It was too dark in the alleyway to see what it was, but that made Alice even more curious.

Alice did not have long to ponder this idea, though, because before she knew it, the dog grabbed the package again and jolted off.

He ran deeper into town, passing through even rougher neighborhoods.

Alice got scared.

This is not the kind of place I like to walk around in," she thought to herself.

She kept following at a safe distance and saw the dog make multiple deposits with a lot of sketchy looking people, every time they took one item out to then send the dog on its way again.

What could be in there?

She started to speculate as she followed the dog's route.

Could there be drugs in there?

Because after about ten drop offs, this dog was about to touch base.

It stopped in front of an old house.

The dog seemed to know this place very well.

Alice watched as she saw the front door of the house open up.

An elderly man of about sixty years old stepped outside and greeted the dog.

He was the first to wear normal clothes.

The man first looked around suspiciously like he didn't want to be followed.

Afterwards, he invited the dog inside.

She wanted to investigate, but was afraid to do so alone.

What if this man saw her and attacked her?

That's when Alice decided to call the police.

The wait for the police was excruciating, and with every minute passing, the chance of getting caught increased.

But then Alice saw two police cars appear in the distance.

She explained the situation, but these policemen hardly listened.

It was like they already knew why they were here.

They knocked on the front door twice, but when the man opened it, the officers quickly rushed inside.

Alice rushed to the window.

She saw two policemen holding the man and one officer going through all the stuff.

These are the stolen goods we were looking for, he yelled.

man was handcuffed and taken to the car.

Alice was only just able to ask what was happening.

He told Alice that the man was a thief and that he deserved to go to jail.

The officers drove off before Alice could ask for more details.

Alice couldn't resist to enter the front door that was still open.

She saw that the cans and boxes were all food, and on the ground stood the dog's old package.

This is where it all started.

That one package led me to all this, Alice mumbled.

She crouched down and decided to open the box.

She was finally going to see what all the fuzz was about.

The box was almost empty, except for a few canisters of food and a note.

and this note was the explanation she was waiting for all this time.

It told her who the man was, who the dog was, and why all the things she saw today made perfect sense in the end.

Alice read as tears quickly filled her eyes.

She dropped to the ground and started crying.

The note explained that the man's name was Thomas and that until recently he was a homeless man who had struggled basically his entire life.

But he was given a lifeline.

A kind woman took him in, fed him and gave him a second chance at life, but there was a problem.

Because of this kickstart, he managed to get a low paying job again, and he even was able to afford the rent of his own new house.

But something kept feeling wrong.

He had been so lucky.

He and his dog were warm, dry, and fed.

But guilt plagued his mind.

Because every day when he walked home from work, he still saw tons of people who were struggling on the streets, people sleeping in abandoned buildings or under bridges.

and Thomas couldn't just do nothing, that's why he made the conscious discussion to help them out.

The note was an explanation to the homeless people, telling them that there was someone looking out for them.

It explained Thomas' position in all this, and told the homeless people to take one canister of food from the box, so everyone could have something to eat, and that's where the dog came into play.

Thomas and his dog lived out on the street for years, and therefore his canine pet knew these streets as well as anybody.

It was Thomas' job to gather the supplies needed, and it was his dog's task to deliver as much food to hungry homeless people as possible.

Alice couldn't believe it.

This man was a saint, and her judgment on the way he looked and behaved from a distance got him arrested.

But why did the officers already seem to know about him?

And why did they call him a thief?

Alice decided to drive to the police station to find out.

The policeman told Alice that a large food warehouse had been robbed multiple times over the last month, and that the stolen food was found in this man's home.

Alice asked if she could speak to Thomas.

The officer was reluctant at first, but after she reminded him that she was the one who called the police in the first place, he let her pass.

She walked over to the holding cell where Thomas resided, and once there she started talking.

She told Thomas that she was the one who had called the cops after following his dog, and she also asked if the accusations made by them were all true.

The man looked at Alice and started crying.

He confessed to all of it, but told Alice he had a good reason.

He told Alice that he wanted nothing more than to help the people in need.

She held his hands through the bars and told him that she completely understood why he did the things he did.

But that wasn't all.

She also promised to do everything in her power to stop him from getting jail time.

But how are you going to do that?

I'm guilty, Thomas said.

Alice smiled because she held a card that wasn't played yet.

She told Thomas that she was a lawyer by profession and that she was going to take him on as her client for free.

A few days later, the court case against Thomas Coltree started.

The judge explained that a prison sentence of three full years was on the table, and the opposing team pleaded heavily for that maximum penalty.

But then it was Alice's turn to speak.

She explained his sad beginnings, and she told everyone in the room about the noble intention of Thomas to feed the voiceless people in this town.

Alice told the jury that the city failed them and presented Thomas as a real life Robin Hood, and then it was up to the judge and jury.

And then the judge and jury stepped back into the room, and their verdict read as followed.

It's said that they felt sympathy for his cause, and even though it was wrong how he did it, it was right what he did.

The stolen produce was to be brought back, and what was eaten must be paid back in the form of a fine.

Also, Thomas would receive one hundred hours of community service so he could face justice and give back at the same time.

But there was a twist because Alice prepared for this situation.

She had already put up a crowdfunding action that would cover the fine.

The noble cause Thomas fought for reverberated with the people in the city and a large sum of money was raised.

The rest of the money was put to good use as well.

Together, Thomas and Alice used that money to set up a soup kitchen in the poorest neighborhood in town.

and word of their initiative quickly got around.

Within no time, he got hundreds of volunteers who wanted to join the real life Robin Hood.

The soup kitchen was called Food for the Voiceless.

And of course, Thomas and his trusted dog were there every day.

Alice helped out whenever she could as well, and the two unlikely individuals became close friends.

When Thomas was asked if he would have done anything differently, he had the following to say,

He said he didn't want to steal, but he couldn't let these people starve either.

He reminded everyone that his crimes did cause a chain reaction that resulted in citywide attention for the homeless, and eventually it caused this soup kitchen, but he is happy to help out in a legal way now.
